CD - ROM Mounting

Mounting the CD-ROM on AIX

To mount the CD-ROM means to make the CD-ROM device physically accessible.
You must prepare the mounting before you can mount the CD-ROM.
To prepare the mounting, complete these steps:
  1. Log on as a user with root authority.
  2. Insert the CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.
  3. Allocate a CD-ROM file system by entering the command smit storage.The System Management Interface Tool (SMIT) is started.
  4. Select File Systems > Add / Change / Show / Delete File Systems > CDROM File Systems > Add CDROM File SystemThe Add a File System window opens.
  5. Next to the DEVICE NAME field, click the List button. A list of available device names opens. If you have only one CD-ROM device, the device name is typically cd0.
  6. Select a device name.
  7. In the MOUNT POINT field, type the directory name of the CD-ROM mount point, for example, /cdrom.
  8. Next to the Mount AUTOMATICALLY at system restart field, click the List button.
  9. Select No, then click OK.
  10. Exit SMIT.

To mount the CD-ROM file system on AIX®, complete these steps:
  1. On the command line, enter the command smit mountfs. The Mount a File System window opens.
  2. In the FILE SYSTEM name field, type the device name for the CD-ROM file system, for example, /dev/cd0.
  3. In the DIRECTORY over which to mount field, type the CD-ROM mount point, for example, /cdrom.
  4. Next to the TYPE of file system field, click the List button. A list of available names opens.
  5. Select cdrfs.
  6. Next to the Mount a READ-ONLY system field, click the List button.
  7. Select Yes.
  8. Accept the remaining default values and click OK.
  9. Exit SMIT.
  10. Log off.
Your CD-ROM file system is now mounted.
To view the contents of the CD-ROM, complete these steps:
  1. Insert the CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.
  2. On the command line, enter the command cd /<cdrom>, where <cdrom> is the directory of the CD-ROM mount point.
